Psalm 107

Give praise to Yahweh, for he is good;

    for Yahweh's loyalty lasts forever.

Let the redeemed of Yahweh say so,

    those Yahweh redeemed from trouble,

and gathered in from the lands,

    from the east and from the west,

    from the north and from the sea.

 Here ends the first psalm segment for the 4th Sunday in Lent and the 2nd Sunday after Pentecost,, Series B

Some wandered in the desolate desert,

    finding no way to an inhabited town;

hungry and thirsty,

    their innermost self fainted on them.

Then they cried to Yahweh in their trouble,

    and Yahweh delivered them from their distresses.

Yahweh led them by a straight road,

    until they came to an inhabited town.

Let them praise Yahweh for his loyalty,

    for his miraculous deeds for humankind.

For he satisfies those who are rushing about for water,

    and the hungry Yahweh fills with good things.

Some lived in darkness and in utter gloom,

    prisoners in misery and in irons,

for they had rebelled against the words of God,

    and disdained the advice of the Most High.

Their hearts were bowed down with toil;

    they stumbled, with no one to help them,

Then they cried to Yahweh in their trouble,

    and Yahweh delivered them from their distresses.

He brought them out of darkness and utter gloom

    and smashed their bonds.

Let them praise Yahweh for his loyalty,

    for his miraculous deeds for humankind.

For Yahweh shatters the doors of bronze,

    and hews down the bars of iron.

Here begins the second psalm segment for the 4th Sunday in Lent, Series B

Some were fools because of their rebellious way,

    and because of their iniquities they endured affliction.

Every kind of food was abhorred by them,

    and they drew close to the gates of death.

Then they cried to Yahweh in their trouble,

    and Yahweh delivered them from their distresses.

Yahweh sent out his word and healed them,

    and delivered them from their destructions.

Let them praise Yahweh for his loyalty,

    for his miraculous deeds for humankind.

Let them offer communal sacrifices of thanksgiving,

    and recount his deeds with a ringing cheer.

Here begins the second psalm segment for the 2nd Sunday after Pentecost, Series B

Some went off in ships,

    doing business on the mighty waters;

they saw the deeds of Yahweh,

    his miraculous acts in the deep.

For Yahweh gave orders and raised the stormy wind,

    and it stirred up the waves of the sea.

Their ships climbed up toward the sky,

    they went down to the depths;

their courage melted away in this disaster.

They reeled and staggered like drunkards,

    and all their wisdom was thrown into confusion.

Then they cried to Yahweh in their trouble,

    and he brought them out from their distresses.

 Yahweh brought the storm to silence,

    and the waves of the sea were hushed.

Then they rejoiced because they had quiet,

    and he brought them safely into their desired haven.

Let them praise Yahweh for his steadfast love,

    for his miraculous deeds for humankind.

Let them praise Yahweh in the assembly of the people,

    and praise him in the session of the elders.

Here ends the second psalm segment for the 2nd Sunday after Pentecost, Series B

Yahweh turns rivers into a desert,

    springs of water into thirsty ground.

Yahweh turns the fruitful land into salty wastelands,

    because of the wickedness of its inhabitants.

Yahweh turns the desert into pools of water,

    and a dry land into springs of water.

There Yahweh lets the hungry live,

    and they establish a city to live in.

They sow fields,

    and plant vineyards,

    and produce a fruitful yield.

Yahweh blesses them and they become very numerous,

    and Yahweh does not let the number of their cattle grow small.

When they are diminished and brought low

    through oppression, trouble, and sorrow.

Yahweh pours contempt on princes

    and makes them wander in trackless wastelands.

But Yahweh raises up the poor from their poverty

    and makes their families like a flock.

The upright see it and rejoice;

    and all the wicked are stricken silent.

Those who are wise will pay attention to these things,

    and meditate upon the loyal actions of Yahweh.
