Psalm 147

Praise Yahweh!

How good it is to make music for our God;

    For Yahweh is gracious, and a song of praise is appropriate.

Yahweh builds up Jerusalem;

    Yahweh gathers together those Israelites who have been cast out.

Yahweh heals the brokenhearted,

    and binds up their wounds.

Yahweh counts the number of the stars;

    Yahweh calls out their names to all of them.

Great is our Lord, and abundant in power;

    Yahweh's insight is without measure.

Yahweh lifts up the downtrodden;

    Yahweh lowers the wicked down to the ground.

Sing to Yahweh with thanksgiving;

    make music to our God on the lyre.

Yahweh covers the heavens with clouds,

    prepares rain for the earth,

    makes grass sprout on the mountains.

Yahweh gives to the animals their food,

    and to the chicks of the ravens when they cry.

Yahweh does not take delight in the strength of the horse,

    nor does he take pleasure in human legs;

But Yahweh takes pleasure in those who show reverence for him,

    in those who place their hope in Yahweh's loyalty.

Jerusalem, sing praises to Yahweh!

    Zion, praise your God!

For Yahweh strengthens the bars of your gates;

    Yahweh blesses your descendants who live in you.

Yahweh grants peace within your borders;

    Yahweh satisfies you with the finest of wheat.

Yahweh sends out his command to the earth;

    Yahweh's word swiftly flies.

Yahweh gives snow like wool;

    Yahweh scatters frost on the ground like ashes.

Yahweh hurls down hail like crumbs--

    who can stand before Yahweh's icy blast?

Yahweh sends out his word, and everything melts;

    Yahweh makes the wind blow and the ice turns into water.

Yahweh declares his promise to Jacob,

    his statutes and ordinances to Israel.

Yahweh has not acted this way with any other people;

    they do not understand his ordinances.
