Psalm 16

Guard me, O God, for in you I seek refuge.  (1)

You* have said to Yahweh, "You are my Lord;

    you are my only good thing." (2)

You* have also said to the [other] holy ones who are in the land:

    "They are my noble ones!

    All my pleasure is in them." (3)

Those who acquire another god

    only multiply their sorrows;

their libations of blood I will not pour out

    or take their names on my lips. (4)

Yahweh is my chosen portion and my cup;

    you are the one who holds my lot. (5)

The property lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;

    my inheritance is beautiful. (6)

I will bless Yahweh who has given me counsel.

    indeed, my kidneys (heart) also give instruction to me in the course of the night. (7)

I have also put Yahweh right in front of me;

    because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. (8)

Therefore my heart rejoices,

    and my liver is glad;

    my body also dwells securely. (9)

For you do not abandon me to the realm of the dead,

    or let me,  your loyal one, see the pit. (10)

You introduce me to the path of life.

    In your presence, there is complete joy;

    at your right hand there are always delights. (11)
