Psalm 86

Incline your ear, Yahweh, and answer me,

    for I am poor and needy.

Preserve my life for I am loyal;

    save your servant who trusts in you.

You are my God; be gracious to me, Lord,

    for to you I call out all day long.

Make the innermost being of your servant happy,

    for to you, Lord, I dedicate my life.

For you, Lord, are good and forgiving,

    abounding in loyalty toward all those who call out to you.

Give ear, Yahweh, to my prayer,

    pay attention to my cry for mercy.

At the time of my trouble I call out to you,

    for you will answer me.

There is none like you among the gods, Lord,

    nor are there any works like yours.

All the nations that you have made come and prostrate themselves before you, Lord,

    and they give glory to your name.

For you are great and do miraculous things;

    you alone are God.

Here begins the psalm segment for Pentecost 9, Series A.

Teach me your way, Yahweh,

    so that I may walk in your truth;

 Pull my heart together to revere your name.

I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,

    and I will give honor to your name forever.

For great is your loyalty toward me;

    you have delivered me from the depths of death!

God, the insolent rise up against me;

    a band of arrogant people seek my life,

    and they pay you no respect.

But you, Lord, are a God of motherly mercy and grace;

    slow to anger and abounding in loyalty and fidelity.

Turn to me and be gracious to me;

    give your strength to your servant;

    save the child of your female servant.

Show me a sign of your goodness,

    so that those who hate me may see it and be put to shame,

    because you, Yahweh, have helped and comforted me.
